Begging
Recently, the Anti-Social Behaviour Act (2003) has extended the Local Government
Act, 1972 and has allowed Local AUthorities to use Section 222 injunctions
(proceedings of a civil nature) to stop any person who is indulging in a
public nuisance. Powers of arrest and injunctions can be used to address
begging within this framework.
'Aggressive Begging' - against your will is classed as robbery.
Beggars can be banned from specific areas by the use of ASBO's.
